REVIEW: RAH RAH – PARKADE
‘Parkade’ by Rah Rah is a sprawling folk ballad featuring strong, assured vocals; psychedelic guitars; accordions and other folk instruments that create just the right amount of tension. There’s a steady beat throughout the track until things lift off around the three minute mark where the tension breaks and stretches, farther reaching than before.
What should have been that euphoric, God fearing moment – that epiphany, instead feels more like a eulogy as everything begins to slowly break down. No musical moments to report on, everything just neatly folds itself away as every single sound dies – the track falling away into nothing.
The NGHTBLND remix adds phaser and delay, a few notchy drum sequences and then thrusts a huge full chorus upon us. It’s not got the strength of the original, but it does make a statement of its own. On this occasion, I prefer the original single – although with both the album and the remix album available as free downloads, I’ll definitely be listening to both – as both artists – Rah Rah and NGHTBLND show great promise and potential.
