REVIEW: SOPHIE BARKER – A FOREST

The Cure are one of those really personal bands whose lyrics drip with profundity, whose melodies chime on timelessly, whose legacy of emotion resonates in the hearts of fans throughout their adult lives. In other words, The Cure are one of those bands whose music you should never touch. Bigger and more established artists than Sophie Barker have tried and failed miserably, which is why it’s so surprising that her cover of 1980 single ‘A Forest’ is, well, it’s actually really good!

London based Barker offers a new spin on The Cure classic without radically changing the mood or the integrity of the original. But what makes this cover different from all the rest is that this artist has come away with her dignity well and truly intact.
