REVIEW: THE TWILIGHT SAD – SICK

On previous albums, Kilsyth boys The Twilight Sad have toyed with elements of shoegaze, post-rock, krautrock and folk. Forthcoming album ‘No One Will Ever Know’ looks set to introduce more electronic elements to their anthemic brand of indie rock. On new single ‘Sick’ subdued and minimalist drum kicks bubble away beneath ominous sounding guitar and James Graham’s confident, accented drawl. The track builds slowly and subtly in layers; by the song’s end the drums become more thunderous and synths buzz melancholically as if ripped from some cold 80s French synthpop. It’ll be interesting to see how the album, released in February next year, will be received by long-time fans.
