REVIEW: WE WERE PROMISED JETPACKS – HUMAN ERROR/INK SLOWLY DRIES

On December 16th, We Were Promised Jetpacks will be concluding their UK tour with a headline show at Glasgow’s O2 ABC. Ahead of this, they release ‘Human Error/Ink Slowly Dries’, a AA single, on December 5th. This is the second offering from the critically acclaimed second album, ‘In The Pit of the Stomach’.

Upon listening the new single, I wanted to love the tracks but to be honest, it’s taken a few listens for me to even like them. ‘Human Error’ is the more upbeat of the two, it contains everything you’d want from a Jetpacks single but there’s definitely a lack of enthusiasm for the music they’re making.

The tempo and atmosphere created in the second of the two tracks is reflected in the title, ‘Ink Slowly Dries’. The addition of Strings and some sweet backing vocals, make this the better of the two.

This is a more mature record but I’d like to see the band go back to their grungier roots sometime soon. In the words of label buddies Frightened Rabbit, “let’s get old fashioned, back to how things used to be”.
