Double feature special episode where Suzanna Marchant, Mark Grainger and Sergio Calvo pick their favourite Christmas movies and discuss Errol Morris’s documentary “Tabloid” and sci-fi indie drama “Another Earth”.
In 1977 former US beauty queen Joyce McKinney became the centre of a tabloid sensation, the ‘manacled Mormon’ scandal, which included kidnap at gunpoint, kinky sex, chains & being spread eagled and Mormon missionaries. The case became a major tabloid story in Brittain and a battle between The Daily Mirror and The Daily Express.
Tabloid giants James and Rupert Murdoch give evidence to the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee on the News of the World phone-hacking scandal on July 19.
“Another Earth” is debut film of director Mike Cahill. It fantasizes with the idea of flying to an approaching planet that looks just likes Earth. This mirror Earth has citizens identical to those in our Earth.
Astronomers have recently confirmed the existence of Kepler 22-b, an Earth-like planet in the “habitable zone” around a star not unlike ours. It is the closest confirmed planet yet to one like ours – an “Earth 2.0″.
